We concurred with the above quote when we interacted with Japanese movie lovers.
The film market in Japan is not only home to Hollywood titles and some extent Chinese and Korean films, but Indian movies are also making a mark. And it is not just Bollywood that is charming its way into the hearts of the Japanese audience. Regional films from the southern market too have a huge fan following.
With that in mind, we conducted an introductory session to the recent magnum opus movie Ponniyin Selvan I for Japanese audiences on 09th October, 2022. The main aim of the session was to explain the background of the story and main characters to the Japanese audience in Japanese language to reach the audience in a better way.
We were astonished to see the audience’s interest in understanding the movie and its characters. Also, there were several questions regarding the story which included “ Whether the story is real or the author’s imagination? “, “ Who is Vanthiyatheven ? Did he really help the Chola Dynasty?” and so on.
Also, they were very curious to know about the music and lyrics of the songs. The session ended with positive feedback from the audience stating that they could understand the movie better after the briefing session. Also, they requested another session to exclusively discuss the music and songs from the film.
